{relaxed details}

love the thoughtful yet unfussy details of john robshaw's home featured in lonny. in particular this guest room with its bits of lilac and plum to add feminine charm to neutral walls and grey-blue painted floors. hoping the bungalow guest room has a similar appeal, but just wait til i paint those floors..
pops of pattern and color create depth and texture. though i am in love with the lattice string work on the bamboo rolled shade and must have them. anyone have any idea where i can acquire these??

p.s. did you see the s&s shout-out jamie's blog, i suwannee?? still loving my pillows and love jamie's shop!

{furbish + favorite floral pillows}

do you know about furbish? it's my favorite new store for pillows & home accessories. jamie mears opened up a storefront in raleigh, nc and just recently launched an online store for those of us who aren't local to raleigh. i fell in love with these gorgeous floral pillows made from vintage fabric. funny story about the fabric: it actually had a former life as drapes in a nc sorority house. when the sorority decided to redecorate, jamie somehow got a few yards of it and turned it into pillows -- genius!
i ordered a pair for the bungalow but can't fully decide on the room where they should permanently live. but right now i love them with our green velvet headboard.

be my {bungalow guest}

our guest bedroom might be the most finished room of the house.
care to see it from the beginning? here it is with pre-painted beadboard & newly installed window.

dreaming about eventually redoing the floors. with a bit of white paint that is.
and here's the after. or at least the current state. still need curtains. i have to give b credit for the paint color. this was the last one we chose of the main rooms and after i agonized over the rest of the colors, he'd had enough and picked one in under 30 seconds and marched me to the front of the store. oh and it's yarmouth blue by benjamin moore if you're wondering (though the swatch on my computer is no where close to the actual color).
what was a decent size closet before we filled it is on the left. a seafoam green dresser that used to be pea green and i white-washed is on the right and came from the antique tobacco barn in asheville (favorite antique/junk shop ever) and was acquired for my very first apartment in college. also found on the same trip is the blanket chest/trunk at the foot of the bed. if you are ever in asheville, you have to go. and now that i'm listing everything, the chair in the corner was also fruit of that trip and actually was bought with the vanity in the master bedroom now. i never got around to painting it though, so it remains a rather dingy cream color sometimes referred to as shabby chic. hm.
white iron bed is from pottery barn, bedding from a combined home goods, anthropologie, and belk. lamps are from target and eventually i'm hoping to recover the shades.
won't you come for a visit, dear friend?

{rue magazine}

online seems to be the best resort for shelter magazine these days. browse the newest one, rue magazine, and see more where this luxurious layered bedroom came from.

{not just} for the birds

found what must be the coolest guesthouse i've ever seen. what once was a pigeonnier, called such because it used to house pigeons back in the day on a louisiana plantation, has been converted into a two-story cottage retreat.
apparently the built-in bookshelves used to house pigeon nests!

{ocean lounge}

soothing deep blue paint creates a cozy nook in ben brougham's studio in nyc. while the gallery wall could be a sensory overload for a sleeping area, the antique golds alternated with stark white mats and thin black and white frames keep the saturated color from overwhelming the space. am debating about finding a wall in the bungalow to paint the same surf blue from benjamin moore. the mustard colored daybed with grey striped bedding adds some brightness while keeping things sophisticated.

{color me suzani}

love the color inspiration taken from the suzanis on the bed. also, somehow this room was designed for a teenager. i'm particularly taken with the white lacquer chippendale patterned nightstand and the turquoise foo dog desk lamp.

{exuberant studio}

the new issue of lonny magazine is full of color and pattern as usual. have always had a secret dream of living in {and decorating} a shoebox apartment in new york city and elizabeth bauer's studio would certainly fit the bill {though may not be so brave to cover half of apartment with zebra print wall paper}

{summer petals}

have lately been drawn to light pastels with neutrals and a backdrop of white.
and could easily move right into this bedroom.

{boho sophisticate}

usually am one for cool colors, there's something about the persimmony reds and hints of aqua in this bedroom. a white chandelier and a bit of black to anchor the colorful florals adds sophistication. also betting that headboard was thrifted somewhere & painted.
